Traditional Tales in Term 3

We have continued to focus on traditional tales this term. In Week 3 we read 'The Princess and the Pea'. We retold the story using the small world and created paper mattresses for our princesses, which we used for skip counting.

In Week 4 we were introduced to our Talk 4 Writing text 'The Enormous Turnip'. We retold the story using the small world and masks and came up with adjectives to describe a real turnip.

In Week 6 we read 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We had so much fun retelling this story using the small world and masks throughout the week. In Maths, we made our very own baskets to take to grandmas house with special treats cut into fractions.

100th Day of School

Last Thursday was the 100th day of  school. We had been counting up to this day all year using our 'Countdown Dachshund' place value chart. To celebrate this special day we participated in a range of Maths and craft activities.

We created 100 day hats and glasses.

After recess we participated in 100 day maths activities.

NAIDOC Incursion

On Friday Rooms 6 and 7 participated in a NAIDOC incursion presented by a man called Greg Nannup. He taught us all about indigenous culture and told us a dreamtime story called 'The Rainbow Serpent'. We even got to hold some traditional clothes and tools.

Three Billy Goats Gruff

This term Room 7 will be learning all about traditional tales. Each week we will focus on a different story and participate in many activities associated with the book.

We started off this unit with 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. After reading the big book for the first time on Monday we used finger puppets to act out the story as a class.
The next day the finger puppets were found in the book corner with a bridge and other items we could use to retell the story.

In the Maths area this week we had a challenge to build a sturdy bridge for the Troll from blocks and other materials.

We had so much fun and are excited to see which traditional tale we will be reading next week.

Measuring Capacity

Last week in Mathematics we focused on measuring Capacity. We learnt the definition of capacity and spoke about how the unit must be kept the same. We participated in capacity rotations and an investigation called 'The Biggest Drink' where we predicted and tested which container would hold the most.

Our Scitech Excursion

Last Friday Room 7 went on an excursion to Scitech with the other classes in Block 2.

After the bus ride we arrived at Scitech and began our day with a Maths and Explosions show.

Next we watched a show about the four seasons in the planetarium called 'Tilt'. We really enjoyed the planetarium as it felt like we were in space.

Finally we got to go into the 'Explore-a-Saurus' excibition where we saw robotic dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs, bones, teeth and claws. We had so much fun in this exhibit.

We had such a great time on our excursion and were all on our best behaviour, Mrs Pye was very proud of us.

We would like to thank Mrs Johns, Mrs Onn and Mr Crump for helping us.

Letters and Sounds Rotations

In Room 7 we love our 'Letters and Sounds' activities. They help us practise new sounds and review sounds we have already learnt.

After a mat session to introduce the focus sound, we participate in different letters and sounds activities independently, while we practise making words using magnetic letters with Mrs Pye.
