Measuring Capacity

Last week in Mathematics we focused on measuring Capacity. We learnt the definition of capacity and spoke about how the unit must be kept the same. We participated in capacity rotations and an investigation called 'The Biggest Drink' where we predicted and tested which container would hold the most.

Our Scitech Excursion

Last Friday Room 7 went on an excursion to Scitech with the other classes in Block 2.

After the bus ride we arrived at Scitech and began our day with a Maths and Explosions show.

Next we watched a show about the four seasons in the planetarium called 'Tilt'. We really enjoyed the planetarium as it felt like we were in space.

Finally we got to go into the 'Explore-a-Saurus' excibition where we saw robotic dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs, bones, teeth and claws. We had so much fun in this exhibit.

We had such a great time on our excursion and were all on our best behaviour, Mrs Pye was very proud of us.

We would like to thank Mrs Johns, Mrs Onn and Mr Crump for helping us.

Letters and Sounds Rotations

In Room 7 we love our 'Letters and Sounds' activities. They help us practise new sounds and review sounds we have already learnt.

After a mat session to introduce the focus sound, we participate in different letters and sounds activities independently, while we practise making words using magnetic letters with Mrs Pye.

Maths Rotations

In Maths we have been focusing on subtraction. We looked at subtraction facts including ten facts, doubles and zero facts. We used different strategies to solve them including using our fingers, counters, number lines and drawing pictures.

Science- Spot the Difference

This term we are looking at Chemical Sciences through a unit called 'Spot the Difference'. We will be  looking at different chemical changes that occur with foods.

This week we explored spaghetti. We were shown some cooked spaghetti and described how it looked, how it smelt and what it felt like. We then did the same with uncooked spaghetti.

After that Mrs Pye explained that we would be making towers using spaghetti and marshmellows. She began building her tower with cooked spaghetti but it wouldn't stand up. We suggested she used the uncooked spaghetti instead, which was much better.

We then got into teams and had a go at creating our own towers using only uncooked spaghetti and marshmellows.
